Billion March Required

I would like to clarify right in the beginning that I am Pro-Telangana. Though born in Maharashtra, my native is hardly 10 km away from Telangana border. I have many more relatives living in Nizamabad, Adilabad and Hyderabad districts than districts in Maharashtra. I would like to see Telangana as a separate state carved out of existing Andhra Pradesh. Undoubtedly it would immensely help in development of people living in that region.

‘Million March’ on Thursday, Mar 10th has irked me like never before. I don’t remember last time when I was so critical of my countrymen and I do not understand how exactly I should express my displeasure towards that march. The vandalism done by Pro-Telangana activists at Tank Bund in Hyderabad is an unforgivable offense.

We all be it Telangana activists or Raj Thakare supporters need to understand that we are Indians first and then comes our regional identity.
I felt terribly bad on watching that rubble on TV. Necklace road in Secunderabad is the jewel of the city. It is as important for the city as Charminar is. There must be thousands amongst those millions who have wandered on the same road numerous times.

Here, I would like to ask everyone very basic question, why do we put up statues? Or it is like, Mayawati’s Statue building activity has adulterated the whole meaning of erecting statues. I believe it is always with the intention that these statues would inspire people to think on the similar lines as those great people have thought. It is with the intention to follow the path shown by the legends thus developing society in all. Have you ever seen Hitler’s statue being erected anywhere? No it is not possible, we don’t want our society to go his way. Looking at what has happened in Hyderabad, for a moment I forgot that these are my people, I suddenly remembered the most infamous person of Telangana, Razakar. Nobody else but he would have only thought such a Talibani destruction.

I would like every Telangana activist to remember that, their mother tongue is Telugu, respect Telugu language and Telugu culture, otherwise it won’t be late to see another Nizam coming out of Telangana who is ready to align himself with Pakistan.

Amongst those whose statues were demolished was a King who supported enrichment of Telugu culture, language and in all the people of the region. There was an Engineer, British, who devoted his life to irrigation in India, thus making the Andhra region Rice-full moreover what is more surprising is statues of purely religious figures like Annamacharya, Vemana and Kshetrayya were desecrated. Protesters had desecrated the statues giving warning that one of their leaders Kondaraman (don’t know the exact name) has to be released from jail, every individual who took part in this rally must ask this question to himself, whether Kondaraman’s contribution to society is bigger than of those whose statues were there. We Indians take pride in our history, in our forefathers, that’s our culture we should not be supporting such a destructive mind.

For the destruction, there isn’t any repentance. We all Indians need to condemn such kind of activity. I don’t want government to rebuild all statues over there; it would pacify the purpose of having statues. What I want? If a million march has dismantled Indian history then a billion march required to reinstate the same.

Shriram,
1stly, we need to understand that statues desecration by few men doesn’t represent whole Telangana people. So, we don’t have any right to comment whole Telangana people or its culture just as it is not apt that act done by Raj Thackeray on north Indians doesn’t mean average action/thought of a Maharashtrian.Act of statues desecration by few men doesn’t make an honest Telangana activist forget his language or culture. Next on statues of heroes, we are again falling prey of our little knowledge on our heroes by quoting that these statues were of heroes representing Telugu culture. Just like,GuruGobind Singh is never treated as only a Punjabi,Sivaji was never perceived to be only a Maharashtrian,Valmiki,Vyasa do not represent only region from where they were born. They represent Bharat’s tradition. Similar is the case with these desecrated statue heroes. Shalivahana was the king on whose name entire Shalivahana Shaka is named, Sri Krishnadevaraya who along with his ancestors stood as a bulwark against Islamic invasions in South India, Annamaya whose songs are rendered by Bhaktas across country. Let us not make them as representatives of only Telugu culture. They represent cumulative heritage of Bharat.
March 10, million march has hurt me in two ways. I felt bad for great heroes (statues) were being treated in this way. At same time, I felt bad also even for all Telangana supporters who are all blamed just because of act done by few men.
Leaving about my feelings, we need to think as we learn in corporate, what was root cause for activists to do act of desecration of statues? Did people do this action left out of no options after trying all possible ways in working towards goal of Telangana? Telangana supporters hurt themselves by burnings, taking floggings from police, huge clamourings, suicides, govt. employees’ pen down (delay in salaries made certain families suffer also) & even hurting different region people including their own? Act they did now was on non-living beings. Of course, this act doesn’t guarantee Telangana.
I once happened to hear that in Poland country, during independence from Russia,
They destroyed Church constructed by Russia only to construct their own church. Note that God is same in both churches. Was thinking of these Telangana people who desecrated statues had similar thoughts in their minds that this was constructed by Andhra leader (NTR) only to show Andhra leaders’ dominance & this dominance need to be removed because some of heroes’ statues damaged belonged to Telangana too like Shalivahana , Rani Rudramadevi. Or, was it just case of people who destroyed doesn’t know history of these heroes. There is no denial that se heroes remain heroes for all people across Bharat & need to be respected at all times. But, except few people, many of us have forgotten these heroes & their deeds. As you mentioned, no wonder that so called heroes statues we are erecting now like case of Mayawatis, YSRs, Rajiv Gandhi’s, people might have forgotten that original heroes(Shalivahana, Yogendra Siddhi) have worked for all sections of people of country & not for any particular region, religion, creed, caste…etc. Next one we need to ponder was on law & order during that time. State govt. & police had been always alert whenever there were Telangana protests across Hyderabad. What was police doing when such act was happening? Not 1 or 2 but 17 statues have been removed. So, chance of goondas to divert Telangana movement to this sensitive issue can't be ruled out. Note that current Congress is getting attacked from all sides right from TDP,TRS to Jagan congress & this could be anyone’s’ tacticAs great children of Bharat we always feel outraged about violence but we need to be restraint. Let us try to be choosy in our words & have a constructive approach to such sensitive issues.

Raghu,
as I have said, I count myself as one amongst them (Telangana people).
I got very angry because there were thousands of people particularly there were students of Osmania 'versity, who we consider to be an educated lot.
We know there is lot of oppression of Telangana people in their own land but that doesnt give any right to be destructive, destructive of our own history.
Motive behind destruction could be political, to gain political mileage but every individual need to have some conscience.
One would never come to know NTR's intention behind having those staues but going by that logic we should destruct every historical monument made by Mughal Empire or British Empire.

Did you expect British & Mughal empires have come to India as saviours of Indian people & constructed the monuments to recognize us??? Tell me a monument name that was constructed by them for the Indians?? India Gate, Gateway of India, Victoria mahal..all are to recognize their occassions. These are some of the unwanted legacies of British colonial rule & there is no need to tell about the Moghul..
